What is good and what is bad?

Good are things that are beneficial for you or others that are devoid of cruelty, suffering and pain.

One can have achieve something good through suffering, but it’s not because of the suffering, it’s in spite of it.

Treating others as you wish to be treated is good.

Treating others as you wouldn't want to be treated is bad.

Why?

Because as a conscious and intelligent being, you should instinctively know that if you wouldn't like something done to you, you shouldn't be doing it to someone else.

Good is tied in with empathy and empathy is attached to intelligence and intelligence is linked to consciousness.

If you aren't able to comprehend that raping someone is bad and not good, how could you be considered conscious?

You would not like to be raped or have anything done to you against your will and without consent.

Is it good or bad if you are violently attacked when you are peaceful?

Not whether the outcome after the fact can be salvaged and become something good from something bad, but is the actual act of someone violently assaulting you with no reasonable justification a good or bad thing?

Would you like someone to break into your home and steal all your belongings?

Would this be considered a good thing?

Because of course one could shift their perspective to see a bad thing as a good thing.

For instance, they may have thought they had too many things and were glad to start afresh and would even thank the thief.

But did the thief steal your belongings deliberately as an act of kindness and to be good, or not?

If your closest family members were kidnapped and tortured for years on end, in excruciating agony and not allowed to die or ever be rescued, would this be good or bad? Is it an act of love, care compassion and kindness or is it cruelty, malice and evil?

If you were somehow able to save your family from being tortured, would this be a good or bad thing?

The point is, good and bad, good and evil, do definitely exist.

Doing something good is performing an action with the intention of helping another in a beneficial way, just the same as you would appreciate they did for you.

Bad is performing an action that either disregards anothers wants or needs or deliberately goes against them. Bad is performing an action that you would not want performed against yourself.

Evil is performing an action with the intention to cause suffering with full comprehension that what you are doing is wrong and that you would not want and could not justify said action performed against you.

For example.

A police officer is being bad when they pull you over and give you a fine.

A police officer is being evil when they physically beat a peaceful and innocent man or woman.

Just because a man or woman can perform the occasional good action does not make them a good person.

A brutal drug cartel lord can help an old lady cross the street, but does this make him good, or did he just do something good?

To be considered a good person, 100% of your actions towards others have to be good, or at least not bad.

You can’t be a truly good person if you treat 99 people out of 100 with decency but then rape and murder 1 out of every 100.

To be a good person, you must strive to always do good things or more succinctly, not do bad things.

It’s easier to not do bad things then it is to do good things.

So start with what’s easiest and work your way up.

Without goodness, there is no reason to live.

For why would any conscious being want to live in a world where bad and evil outnumbers the good?

Without knowing bad and evil, one cannot truly know good and thus can not truly be good.

Many people think they are good people, yet vote, pay taxes, pay fines, don't speak up for what is right, obey the government, follow the “rules” and do as they are told.

These are not the characteristics of someone who is good.

These are the characteristics of someone who is bad.

Not evil, but bad.

They think they are good and may even have good intentions, but their actions produce negative and damaging results.

If you think murder, rape and torture were good and made you a good person when you did them, is that a valid excuse?

Of course not, just because you believe something is good does not make it true.

What’s true is true and what is true is that supporting and submitting to terrorist organisations like governments and police gangs is bad, not only for you but for everyone else too.

As previously mentioned, if you want to be good, stop doing bad.

But to actually be good, you need to know the difference between good and bad.

Good and bad isn't just individually the outcome or the intention.

It’s the combination of intention and outcome.

If you have good intentions and produce positive results, then it’s good.

If you have good intentions but produce negative results, it’s bad, you made a mistake.

If you have bad intentions but produce good results, it’s still bad, you just accidentally did good.

If you have bad intentions and produce bad results, it’s definitely bad.

To be good means you have good intentions and achieve positive outcomes.

There is also neutrality. Neutrality claims to not pick a side. When it comes to basic personal matters, fair enough.

But when it comes to larger moral matters, it’s much more important.

Here is what some famous people have been quoted saying about neutrality.

‘We must always take sides.
Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.’
- Elie Wiesel

‘Neutrality does not serve righteousness.
For to be neutral between right and wrong is to serve wrong.’
- Theodore Roosevelt

‘The hottest place in hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict.’
- Martin Luther King, JR

If you want to be good, pick the side of good.

If you want to be bad, pick the side of bad.

When one knows bad, evil and good and chooses to be good, they are in alignment with the Utopian mindset.

When one chooses to be bad or evil, they are in alignment with the dystopian mindset.

Be good, do good, enjoy good.

Why?

Because it’s good!
