Open mindedness is the ability to entertain new ideas and thoughts without immediately accepting or rejecting them as true or false, good or bad.

When you’re able to consider new ideas, especially ones that conflict with your current beliefs, you are demonstrating open mindedness.

If you are extremely judgemental and stand offish against new ideas, thoughts and possibilities, you are showing that you are close minded.

To be able to learn new things, consider different possibilities and to discover if you may actually be wrong in your beliefs, you must be able to be open minded.

Progress and change cannot happen in a society of closed minded individuals.

Close minded people have made up their mind about what they believe, even if what they believe is wrong.

Typically someone who is close minded is that way because they have attached their pride to their beliefs and feel that if they were to be proved wrong, it would cause them to be embarrassed and ashamed of believing something that wasn't true.

That’s why it’s critical to try to educate people in a way which is not judgemental, condescending or confrontational.

This way it makes it much easier for someone who is close minded to become open minded, because they feel safe enough to discover if they’re wrong and to arrive at the right answers without being threatened.

If someone feels threatened, they will remain close minded.

If they feel safe, they will more easily open their mind.

Without open mindedness, people will never expand their minds to consider the new ideas that Utopia offers.

With it, Utopia becomes a matter of when, not if.
