Imagine if overnight all the money disappeared in the world.
What would we eat?
What would we build with?
Who would produce the food or build things?
How would we be able to access information and know what to do?
How would we all survive?
Hold on, if all the money vanished, that doesn't mean all the plants, fruits, vegetables and animals would also disappear.
No they would still be here, we could still have food so that’s Ok.
What about building materials, like sand, rocks, concrete, iron, steel and wood?
Nope, they wouldn't have vanished as they are not money, they are actual resources so would still be here.
Alright so that’s a good thing, all the building materials would still be here.
If all the money went away, would that mean all the people that produce food and build things would also be gone?
Well no, because they are not money, they are the people who do the work, money can’t do work, it’s just paper.
So good so far, if all the money went, we would still have food, water, resources to build with and all the people to do the work.
What about knowledge of how we should do things, special technical information, wouldn't all that be gone?
If you think about it, information is stored in computers, the internet, books and inside of peoples heads.
The paper in a book which contains information about building and food production is obviously more valuable than coloured paper with numbers on it.
No information is stored in money, you can’t eat it, you can’t drink it, you can’t build with it and it can’t do any work.
It seems if all the money in the world disappeared overnight, we wouldn't have lost anything of value at all.
Our chances of survivability would actually dramatically increase as we wouldn't be limited to what we could accomplish by bits of numbered paper.
Without the constraints of numbers inside a computer that supposedly represent something of value, yet in reality do not, why would people not be able to flourish and work together much more effectively?
If we weren't restricted from improving the quality of our towns infrastructure by an apparent lack of numbers on paper, we could build what we want and need for our community based upon our actual resources.
If money didn't exist as the primary obstacle for distributing food evenly to everyone, we could ensure no one ever went hungry, as we know there is more than enough food for everyone, just check the landfills and rubbish bins for evidence of all the food we waste.
Imagine if the barrier to building new roads and community facilities didn't exist, as we all know our town doesn't have the high quality roads and facilities it deserves because there isn’t enough digits in a computer.
The question isn't how would we survive in a world without money.
The question is, how do we survive in a world with money?
